Hiring new employees to fill an overwhelming demand.
Kentwood, Michigan
Situation Overview
- Decking client had long wait list due to high demand.
- Needed new, experienced employees to deliver great customer experience.
- MINDSCAPE took on the challenge.
A high demand of deck builds caused capacity issues for a renowned decking company.
Green Shield is West Michigan’s number one deck-building company because of the superior customer experience they offer. Every year they help hundreds of residents create beautiful outdoor spaces. In fact, they are so good at what they do that in the summer of 2022, the high demand for their services led to a longer wait list than Green Shield was used to. They knew that the increasing size of their wait list wouldn’t allow them to deliver a customer experience they were happy with — they would need more employees if they wanted to get through their list more quickly.
So, they decided to come to MINDSCAPE for help or assistance. In May of 2022, we assisted Green Shield in driving prospective employees to their website in hopes of getting new staff on board so they could keep up with service demand.
Goals
- Lower wait times
- Increase application and new hires
- Improve the process for vetting new candidates
Drive high-quality applicants to a Green Shield Application page.
To keep up with demand, Green Shield needed our help doing three things:
1. Driving qualified candidates to their website.
2. Increasing the number of applications received.
3. Making the process for vetting candidates quick and easy.
If we could achieve these three things, we could help them reach their overall goals of hiring new employees, decreasing their wait list, and recognizing more revenue.
Challenges
- Tight timeline
- Lack of knowledge on how to reach audience
- Defined budget
A high demand of deck builds caused capacity issues for a renowned decking company.
Green Shield was on an incredibly tight timeline. There wait list was already very wrong, and they new they needed to increase their output immediately if they wanted to maintain the incredible customer experience they are known for. The problem was, they didn’t know how to reach potential job candidates. And with a defined budget, they didn’t have the time or money to experiment.
Solutions
- Use radio and social ads to drive awareness
- Create a simple and quick “pre application” form to make it easy for candidates to apply, and for Green Shield to vet them
- Create a pop-up to direct users from the Green Shield home page to the “pre-application” page
Target the right audience, at the right time, on the right channel.
To inform experienced builders that Green Shield was looking for new hires as quickly as possible, we decided to run radio ads on stations that target young men — the most popular demographic for deck builders. We also ran Facebook ads to drive awareness via traditional and digital means. The ads enticed our audience to apply for Green Shield.
To keep things simple for users, we directed them to the Green Shield home page. Once there, a pop-up was triggered that directed them to the application landing page we created. There, they simply had to submit a four-question form. While small, this form helped Green Shield immediately vet candidates and determine which candidates warranted a more in-depth interview.
Results
- 827 pageviews
- 89 pre-application submissions
- 10.8% conversion rate
More applicants than they know what to do with.
We launched the campaign on June 30th, 2022. We originally planned to run the campaign through October, but in just over two weeks, we generated 49 candidates on a 13.9% percent conversion rate. We ended up pausing the campaign on July 16 due to Green Shield having more candidates than they could quickly interview.
On September 15, we re-launched the campaign, but cut it off just two weeks later due to the high number of candidates who applied.
