Let’s be honest, with everything else going on in your day, writing a blog post might not be at the top of your to-do list.
But if you want to reach more people, if you want to improve your cutomer interactions, and if you want to become an industry thought leader, you have to produce good, relevant content continuously.
[Enter Vlogging]
You may not have the time to type up a few blog posts each week, but what about recording a video? Surely you have time to hit a record button? I know I am sugar coating it. There is editing, you still need to have your ideas outlined, and let’s not forget about camera equipment.
But vlogging is a great alternative to blogging (or a great addition to it!). And it can do wonders for your brand awareness.
So what can you do to start your Vlog?
Step 1: Hit the Books
(No, not literally)
Like the beginning of any business endevour, the first step to starting your vlog is doing a little research. You need to ask yourself…
What do you I want from my Vlog?
Are you trying to reach new audiences? Increase brand loyalty? Change customer perception?
Without knowing what you want, creating your vlog is pointless.
Take a good look at your company and decide what problem you are trying to solve. Talk to your sales division and see what your customers are responding well to and what you could improve upon. Once you have this information, you can start developing a concrete idea of what you want your vlog to be.
Step 2: Define the Purpose of Your Vlog
You know your problem, but how are you going to solve it.
Let’s say you are a vendor of hiking gear. You are doing well, but in recent months you have started losing customers to a new company. You need to remind your customers why they have gone to you in the past.
So how are you going to do it?
Maybe you decide to create a scientific vlog, explaining the research and development that goes into your products. Maybe you feature your products in action, using customer quotes and interviews that attest to the reliability of your product. Or maybe you feature a specific product each vlog and talk about the different ways it can be used.
Think about all the different ways you can solve your problem, pick one, and put it into action.
It may take some trial and error, but when you figure out what works best for you and your company, you’ll be quickly on your way to success.
Step 3: Choose Your Equipment
Now that you know what approach you will be taking with your vlog, you need to figure out what equipment you’ll be using.
You may be thinking, “Well, all I need is a camera, right?”
Well yes, you might need a camera. But the equipment you use will be specific to your approach. Let’s look at our example from before.
If you want to make a vlog covering the research and development that goes into creating your product, you may want to get a professional grade camera. If you want to do a vlog featuring your products in action, a GoPro might serve you best. And if you want to do a vlog reviewing a specific product with each new post, a webcam could be for you.
You will use all kinds of different equipment depending on your individual goal, but whatever your goal, make sure you do your research before making any major equipment purchases.
Step 4: Create your Vlog
You now have everything you need to start vlogging. The ground work is done, but now you have to actually get started.
So, figure out what you are going to say. Record it. And edit.
I know, it seems like this should be the meat and bones of a post on how to start vlogging, but it really isn’t. You will have your own way of preparing your material, your own way of recording it, and your own way of editing. So get started!
Step 5: Promote Your Vlog
There are many different forums for promoting your vlog. How you promote will largely depend on your company’s client base and marketing strategy. However, there are a few things you should do no matter what.
- Publish frequently
- Publish consistently
- Stay active on social media
Doing these things will help your vlog generate more traffic, keep you active with your customer base, and help you reach new people.
